There are a couple of wine events that we seldom miss. One of these events is Fijnwyn at Shokran Wedding and Events Venue in Pretoria East. To read a bit more about this, here’s some background info: A fine day out at Fijnwyn!
You really should add the next Fijnwyn event, with the theme Fijnwyn Innie Lente (it translates to Fijnwyn during Spring) to your calendar for next weekend. What better way to spend your Heritage Day weekend than at this lovely outdoors venue. Happening on Saturday (22nd of September) and Sunday (23rd of September) this family friendly outing offers live music, a great selection of wine producers and delicious food stalls. There is even an entertainment area for the kids!
Fijnwyn always adds something new and interesing to the mix, so this is what you can look forward to:
1. Braai!
Seeing that Monday, the 24th of September is Heritage Day (also unofficially named “Braai Day”) Weber will supply 12 gas braais in the Weber braai area. A limited number of braai packs will be available to purchase as well. With a glass of fine wine in one hand and some “braaivleis” in the other, you can truely celebrate Heritage Weekend at Fijnwyn Innie Lente!
2. New wine estates and exhibitors
Here is a list of wine estates who will be there.
I noticed a few firm favourites (like Boekenhoutskloof, Oak Valley, Raka, Rietvallei, Thelema, Villiera, Vrede & Lust and Weltevrede – and many more), but got really excited when I noticed Babylonstoren and Morgenster on this list! Yay! We actually visited these two estates during our trip to the Western Cape a couple of weeks ago, and it would be great to stop by their stalls again! Morgenster will bring their award-winning olive oils to taste – not to be missed.
3. Fijnwyn “in style”
Let me tell you a little bit more about Fijnwyn “in style”.
Fijnwyn “in styl” (translates to Fijnwyn in style) isn’t a new addition to Fijnwyn, but this time around they do offer something extra. Fijnwyn “in style” ticket holders have access to a exclusive VIP tent, with specially reserved seating. You get provided with ice buckets to keep your wine chilled, and there are even waiters to tend to your needs. For R595 per person you also get a Fijnwyn Picnic Box (to be shared between 2 people) to the value of R575. So technically it works out to about R300 per person, which I think is VERY reasonable. The Fjinwyn picnic box are always FANTASTIC! You can see in the image below what it contains – mouthwatering eats plus a bottle of wine.
Fijnwyn & Blom Picnic Box contains: Fijnwyn cheese board, cold meat selection, camembert & fig quiche, snoek pate, tzatziki, pickled jalapenos, salt biscuits, edam white, goats cheese, percorino, ciabatta, butter, chocolate blondies, mini meringues, seasonal salad (always my personal favourite!), pink lemonade and a bottle of Bartho Eksteen Blom.
The Picnic Box can also be ordered by other ticket holders (so not only by Fijnwyn in Styl patrons), be sure to order in advance though.
This Fijnwyn Innie Lente Picnic Box includes Bartho Eksteen’s “Blom” rosé. A special treat for Fijnwyn in Styl ticket holders is that Bartho will get a short talk every day at 11.45 in the Fijnwyn in Styl tent about his wines and also specifically about the “Blom”.

Fijnwyners can also bring their own camping chairs and gazebos to set up for the day in the “Chill Zone”. There are other Take note that no own food and drinks are allowed, kindly rather support the vendors. I saw that there will be ice cream, cheese and pizza – amongst other goodies, so I’m sure there will be something for everyone!
Tickets will be available at the gate. I would highly recommend booking in advance though, the previous couple of events sold out very quickly on the day.
