This time of the year most of us are taking strain. The Xmas period is beckoning, but we still have a couple of weeks of the daily grind to slog through. So it is great to get the opportunity to just unwind, enjoy beautiful views of the city and sip on a gorgeous cocktail or two.
Earlier this week I was fortunate to be invited to visit Luce at Hyde Park for a year end get together. Part of the Tsogo Sun group, this lovely venue is the ideal spot to have a few after work drinks and dinner.
“Luce” means light – and it is easy to see why. One wall of the restaurant is entirely made up of enormous windows, so you have beautiful views of Johannesburg for as far as the eye can see. What a view! I can imagine that, if you are visiting Luce for dinner, the views will be even more spectacular!
Luce is also known for the menu – an interesting fusion of Italian and Japanese cuisine. And last, but definitely not least – an enticing cocktail menu.
We had a taste of a few of Luce’s popular menu items, starting off with this freshly baked herb bread and balsamic dressing. Who doesn’t love bread! Who doesn’t love freshly baked bread!
Followed by these beautiful dishes – just look at the delicious caprese salad! One of my favourite dishes – so fresh. I also tried the crispy calamari, tempura vegetables, grilled lemon – seriously tasty. Loved the bites of tempura veggies in-between.
Next up! Battered hake and sirloin steak with mushroom sauce and the yummiest onion rings. We also had the most delectable veal tortellini and veggies – and I only noticed now that I didn’t take a proper photo of it, probably because I was really digging into these scrumptious dishes and chatting away with fabulous friends!
Add some soft chocolate souffle and vanilla ice cream in the mix and voila! A perfect afternoon indeed!
Looking at the menu I am definitely keen to go back and explore the Japanese fusion side of Luce’s menu. While I was checking out the restaurant earlier, I spent some time at the sushi counter. Beautiful chunks of fresh fish being expertly prepared by the staff – I have to go back for some of that!
A huge thank you to Annie and friends for the wonderful treat!
