KWV Brandy has been awarded an impressive 3 gold medals for the KWV 10-Year-Old Potstill Brandy, KWV 12-Year-Old Barrel Select Brandy and the KWV 20-Year-Old XO Brandy at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) 2018.
Such an accolade from the ISC in the Brandy, Cognac, Armagnac, Calvados, Pisco, Grappa category is regarded to be the most respected and sought after in the drinks industry, due to the stringent nature of the judging process. Winning an ISC medal is an outstanding achievement and underlines a producer’s commitment to quality and innovation through the spirits.
Cognac has long since been universally considered as the world’s finest spirit distilled from grapes, and this French spirit has enjoyed global appeal as a result. However, KWV is proving that it can comfortably rival this counterpart with its classically styled Brandy that takes years to perfect.
A key differentiator of South African Brandies are the strict laws of production governing Brandy distillers. Legislation dictates that Brandy in South Africa should be matured in 340 ℓ or smaller French oak barrels for a minimum of three years – whilst other countries only require 6 months, to 2 years and unlimited barrel size. At KWV this regimen is taken a step further with its potstill brandies that are allowed 10 years or more of maturation time – to allow for the quality and purity that give KWV’s brandies their internationally competitive edge.

Now in its 23rd year, the ISC is the premier event in promoting outstanding quality spirits from across the globe. The competition is founded on a rigorous and independent judging process, which serves to encourage the high calibre of spirits and designs entered into the competition each year. Receiving more than 1,600 entries from nearly 70 countries worldwide, the ISC is a truly global competition. It is supported by many of the world’s leading spirits producers as the international standard for quality and excellence.

On 12th July, the world’s leading drinks producers and design specialists will gather in Central London for the annual ISC Awards Dinner. Paying tribute to some of the finest spirits, and packaging designs in the world, results for categories are announced with the evening highlights, which include the acclaimed Trophies, Producer of the year, Distiller of the Year, Supreme Champion Spirit and Special Recognition awards.
