Meet MasterChef Australia’s Ben Ungermann
Aug 13 @ 2:00 pm - Aug 15 @ 10:00 pmR850
The king of ice-cream is in South Africa
Ben Ungermann – runner-up of MasterChef Australia 2017 – is in South Africa to teach fans how to make the perfect ice-cream.
Ungermann will be working with the Capsicum Culinary Studio on a series of masterclasses where participants will learn the techniques and tricks to make the perfect ice-cream.
Ungermann, who was dubbed the King of Ice-Cream on the hit television show, has already opened his own ice-cream parlour, Ungermann Brothers, in Ipswich in Australia.
Flavours in the shop include a wacky and delicious roast garlic scoop; strawberry balsamic; chocolate mandarin with candied zest; matcha white chocolate; maple pecan bacon; lavender and honeycomb; cardamom and coffee as well as peanut butter. He uses no stabilisers or preservatives in the ice-cream.
Ungermann is quoted as saying: “My idea to open an ice-cream shop, in partnership with my brother, derived from trying to turn my initial weakness for desserts into a strength. At the start of the MasterChef competition we were advised to work on our weaknesses and as a savoury cook I started working really hard on desserts.
“During my MasterChef journey I discovered a love of sweets things, particularly ice-cream and I was nurtured by the judges to really develop this further throughout the competition.”
The Capsicum Ben Ungermann masterclasses will take place at the Capsicum Culinary Studio in Pretoria on Monday, August 13, Tuesday, August 14 and Wednesday, August 15. There will be demonstrations on each of these three days from 14h00 to 16h00 and from 18h00 to 20h00. The cost is R850 a person and includes an apron and a welcome drink.
Capsicum Culinary Studio is situated at Menlyn Square, Ground Floor, South Building
134 Aramist Ave, Waterkloof Glen.
