A Delightfully Decadent December

I’ve read somewhere that, when blogging, it isn’t always the best idea to ‘date’ your posts.  In other words, don’t say ‘today is the first of December 2020’, because that means that by the tenth of December 2020, your content may appear very outdated.

I don’t care though.  What a year 2020 has been!  I am thrilled to finally say ‘howzit’ to December.  How the say goodbye the dumpster fire that was 2020?  Celebrate every day of this month, month twelve of twelve.  I am going to try my damndest to make December Delightfully Decadent.

Why don’t you join me?

A couple of weeks ago, I received a bottle of Skyline Late Harvest to try.  This wine is out of Van Loveren’s stable, so to speak. Van Loveren is known for being very aware of what the general South African wine-sipping public wants.  Making most varietals easily accessible and drinkable with approachable ranges like Four Cousins, Papillon and Tangled Tree.  Van Loveren realised that quite a sizable part of their fans do enjoy sweeter wines.  And that is how Skyline was born.

To quote from the website:

Inspired by the skyline of our great cities & a vibrant new generation with uncompromising taste for the good things in life.

The wine:

This semi-sweet wine is 100% Chenin Blanc, full-bodied with aromas of honey, dried apricot and peaches. Like all semi-sweet wines, it is delicious served very chilled.

The food:

The notes of dried fruit and honey immediately made me think that this wine will make a great partner for something sweet and rich.  Well, it is December after all – how about some fruit cake?  So yes.  I’m kicking off the first day of December, taking full advantage of the fact that it is now widely accepted to start openly indulging in Xmas food.  Quick and easy, preferably ready-made food and wine pairings are my jam!
