You had me at… “Nuy”!

This post is so overdue, I hang my head in shame.  And this is not the only one folks, so hang onto your hats!

I was looking at all the photos of our holiday last year, and these pics just reminded me once again what a gem Nuy on the Hill, the restaurant and tasting room at Nuy winery, is.

While planning our annual holiday, we wanted to make sure we visit a few spots in Worcester.  Browsing on the internet for recommendations (as one does)  Nuy on the Hill immediately popped up a a lunch option. It was quite an easy decision to make, because 1) it’s unique location (on top of a hill, duh), 2) the restaurant receives excellent reviews and 3) wine!  As an extra add on – they offer an unique wine tasting experience – a sweet wine tasting.  So you pretty much had me at ‘Nuy!’.

We arrived on a cool Monday afternoon, with rain clouds gathering on the horison and a chilly breeze in the air.

We love that kind of weather, that is the reason we usually vacation in winter.  The perfect wine-sipping weather to boot.

You can see Nuy on the Hill from a distance, a very impressive, almost imposing, modern building. Instead of being cold and sterile, you walk into a huge open area, greeted warmly by the staff on duty, a cozy fireplace with comfy couches and your breath gets taken away by the huge windows making up the entire right-hand side of the structure.

From here you can see for kilometers on end.  It is simply breathtaking.

Being a bit on the peckish (and thirsty) side, we quickly made our way to a table right next to the window.  I just sat and stared for a while, taking in the view.

Always on the lookout for interesting wines, we spotted the 2015 Calcareo on the menu.  The Calcareo is a blend of Chenin, Chardonnay, Semillon and Viognier, so we knew that it will be right up our alley!  It was simply divine!  My biggest regret is that we didn’t buy more of it to bring home.

Our meal was simply scrumptious as well. Nuy on the Hill’s menu is impressive and should please any palate.  From tapas and pizza to burgers and fish and chips.  Comfort food on a chilly day.

After that very tasty meal we were ready to chill on the couch in front of the fireplace and try Nuy’s wine and sweet pairing. Nuy is known for their award-winning muscadel and it is properly showcased in this interesting pairing.  What a treat!

I was really impressed by the Potstill Brandy, and together with the Mastery Chardonnay, it came out tops for me personally.

A special ‘thank you’ for treating us to the sweet and wine tasting, loved it!
