You know by now that we am biiiig fans of Fijnwyn Food & Wine festival! I really enjoy the chilled vibe, just spending time with fellow wine lovers in a beautiful and relaxed environment. And this weekend at Rooi Fijnwyn, was no different.
Rooi (Red) Fijnwyn mainly focuses on red wine and port, which is of course perfect for this time of the year. All the wineries were allowed to sneak one white wine in though, just to make sure that there is something for everyone. Just what you need to take the winter chill away! Pair the beautiful wine with great food and awesome company and you had the perfect day out! That is one of the things that makes Fijnwyn truely unique – after tasting a couple of wines, you can just grab a bottle of vino and go and chill with your wine-loving buddies under the trees and listen to live music and just have a lekker kuier.
It is very difficult to choose a favourite, but the Portuguese wines from International Brand Distributors (Portugal) were amazing – especially the port! Other favourites like Vrede & Lust, Muratie, Edgebaston, La Bri, Raka, Rietvallei and De Krans (etc!!) didn’t disappoint. Boplaas also showed off their new craft gin and whisky – interesting indeed!
And then, we need to talk about the food as well!
The oysters from The Oyster Lady was absolutely delicious! So fresh you can taste the ocean. And braaibroodjies and steak from Braaiplankie was the best ever! Huge slices of homemade milk bread and succulent steak strips – oh man, I’m going to start salivating again!
I hope to see them at the next Fijnwyn event! Speaking of which, diarise this:
Looks pretty cool, doesn’t it?
